Profile of Mr Max B Mahendran (MCRN: 18950)
Mr Max B Mahendran is a specialist in Phlebology, dealing with
diseases of veins. He qualified from Medical College in 1988 from
Chennai University of India. He underwent basic surgical training in
the United Kingdom from 1991 and graduated with surgical
fellowship from Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He moved
to Ireland in 1995 to continue higher surgical training. He had
trained in specialised surgical units in Colorectal Surgery,
Hepatobiliary - Liver Transplantation and Thoracic surgery, before
continuing on to specialise in Vascular and EndoVascular surgery.
Mr Mahendran has worked in Cork University Hospital & South
Infirmary Hospital Cork, Cavan General Hospital and St. Vincent’s
Hospital, Mater Hospital and St. James Hospital Dublin.
He joined the St. James’ Vascular Institute in 2002 to specialise in
Vascular and EndoVascular surgery involving arterial and venous
diseases. He also worked in Vascular Surgical units in Mater
Hospital and University College Hospital Galway. He was appointed
to the post of Senior lecturer in Vascular surgery at National
University of Ireland Galway and developed the EndoVascular
training programme for the Western Vascular Institute. He has also
served as a Director on the board of Western Vascular Institute. He
was instrumental in developing the PVD clinic and the Venous ulcer
clinic at University College Hospital Galway.
Mr Max B Mahendran first set up the specialist Phlebology practice
at Shanakiel Hospital, Cork in 2007. He trained under Prof MacKay
in Florida, USA in minimally invasive venous procedures and
introduced the EndoVenous Laser Ablation procedure for varicose
veins in Cork. He also trained with Prof Tessari from Italy in the
Foam Sclerotherapy technique for varicose veins. He extended his
practice to Kerry region in 2009 and set up the Phlebology practice
at Kerry Clinic, Bon Secours Hospital, Tralee.
